The 2.5 inch .50 caliber Sharps (50-90 SHARPS) first appeared in 1875 Sharps catalog later referred to by the gun writers as the “BIG 50”.  Frank Barnes book Cartridges Of The World explains that a .50-90 was also referred to as .50-100 or .50-110 depending upon powder charge and bullet weight.  Correct bullet diameter .509 inch.
