HISTORY: At introduction the .50-70 Musket was officially known as the .50-70-450 (.50 caliber-70-grain of black powder shooting a 450-grain bullet). Referenced also as the .50-70 Springfield because the round was adapted for the Springfield Model 1866 Trapdoor. Remington Rolling Blocks and Sharps chambered rifles in .50-70 used by the military and buffalo hunters. The .50-70 was replaced by the .45-70 in 1873.
