.45 COWBOY SPECIAL was created to solve the problem of light loads in .45 COLT.  Excessive airspace results in light loads so the end result is sometimes spilt cases, primers backing out and overall poor performance.  A Cowboy Special is a case with 45 Colt rim that is the same length as a .45 AUTO.  When using .45 AUTO data keep in mind that creating a load that stays within a revolvers pressure limits so absolutely avoid +P loads and stay at the lower limits of published ACP data.  In most cases .45 Colt dies will work, MAY need to rely upon .45 AR crimp die.
