History: The .303 Savage is a .30-caliber cartridge that uses standard .308-diameter bullets, typically ranging from 150 to 190 grains, making it well suited for modern rifle reloading. Originally conceived in 1895 as a potential military cartridge, it was ultimately never adopted for that role. Instead, Savage Arms introduced the .303 Savage commercially in their Model 1899 lever-action rifle, where it gained a solid reputation as a reliable sporting cartridge. Production continued up through World War II. In England, the cartridge was commonly referred to as the .301 Savage.
