A Winchester classic that was unveiled in the then new Model 54 in 1925.  A simple and still effective flat shooting hunting cartridge based on the 30-06 necked down to shoot lighter bullets, the 130-grain considered the standard weight originally, this has much to do with the writings of Jack O’Connor.  A .270 Winchester can be a varmint round when loaded with 110-grain V-Max bullets or the lighter Speer TNT bullet.  Never accepted has a match caliber, the .270 earned its fame hunting big game, especially out west where flat trajectory is mandatory.  With that in mind bullets in the 130 to 150-grain size are developed for taking game.  Sample of 130-grain bullets click here, or if you have a preference for 150-grainers click here.  A good compromise would be Hornady’s 140-grain  BT-SP, or the modern 145-grain ELD-X bullet.
