Formed 256 Winchester brass.  Cases formed from unfired Starline  357 MAGNUM cases.  Small primer pocket cases.

History: Introduced in 1961 and promoted as a solution to long range pistol shooting.  Ruger chambered the Hawkeye single-shot revolver.  Later on the .256 was offered by T/C and in Marlin’s Model 62 lever-action.  Most current reloading handbooks provide reloading data in the rifle section, earlier books have lower pressure loads intended for handguns as well as the higher velocity rifle data.  Hornady 4th Edition will have both data sets (click here) where Hornady 10th Edition features just rifle data (click here).
