HISTORY: Evolved from the 308 Winchester with credit going to Warren Page with his experiments wildcatting the 308 in the 1950’s. Warren’s pet name for the 24 caliber was the “Super Pooper”, when standardized by Winchester a better name was selected, the 243 Winchester. In order to stabilize heavier bullets 1:10 rifling twist was used by Winchester and producing minimal recoil propelled the 243’s popularity with hunters and reloader’s alike.

Bullet variety helped make the .243 popular and versatile from varmints to deer sized game. Great Varmint bullets will include a 58-grain V-Max or Speer 70-grain TNT Hollow Points, Match grade include a 105-grain Hornady BT-HP or 108-grain ELD-M.  Game bullets generally range from 90 to 100-grain bullets, click here to shop all 6mm bullets.
