A grand old cartridge that is still fun to shoot and reload, a magnum cartridge when first created by Colt in 1873.  Originally  loaded a 255 grain bullet on top of  40 grains of black powder for a muzzle velocity of 810 fps created a them impressive 378 foot pounds of energy.
